Benjamin Screening Services Phlebotomy Technician Training Program The Phlebotomy Technician Training Program at Benjamin Screening Services is a comprehensive, competency-based training program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in phlebotomy and eligibility for national certification examinations. This structured 13-week program is delivered through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, providing a consistent and accessible schedule for adult learners and working professionals. The curriculum is designed to ensure students develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical competencies required in modern healthcare environments. Instruction includes, but is not limited to: Anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system Medical terminology and laboratory procedures Infection control, safety standards, and OSHA compliance Patient identification, communication, and professionalism Venipuncture and capillary (dermal) collection techniques Specimen handling, processing, and transportation Quality assurance, documentation, and error prevention A strong emphasis is placed on clinical skill development and hands-on performance. Students are required to successfully complete a minimum of: 50 live venipunctures 10 dermal (capillary) punctures All procedures are performed under direct supervision to ensure accuracy, safety, and adherence to industry standards. Students must demonstrate competency in patient interaction, specimen collection, and proper technique prior to program completion. Student performance is evaluated through written examinations, skills check-offs, and practical demonstrations to ensure mastery of both knowledge and clinical application. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will have demonstrated the technical proficiency, clinical competence, and professional behavior necessary to function effectively as phlebotomy technicians in a variety of healthcare settings.
